Its Time to Tell McCain!

Obama promised us 1.7 million clean energy jobs.

The national unemployment rate will be announced this Friday, and MoveOn.org is seizing this opportunity to support the prposed bill for clean energy jobs. We will be staging a symbolic "unemployment line" outside of John McCain's district office. To sign up for the rally, please follow this link.

I don't have to tell you all how important it is that our leaders get started on a plan for a greener future RIGHT NOW. In my opinion, climate change and peak oil are the two most pressing issues facing this generation of Americans. Without a concerted effort to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels, we will face drastic environmental consequences within our lifetime, and our children just won't have a chance.

Please join me this Friday (October 2) at 12:00 noon at McCain's office.

After the rally we can debrief and relax at Steve's Espresso as planned. However, we will meet there at 1:00PM instead of 5:00PM (as it says on your MAU calendars). I hope that this does not inconvenience anyone. Please let me know if you can make it. I have updated our Fall Calendar of Events to reflect the changes.

peace.

  1. Here was a statement that McCain gave in response to our rally today:

"While this bill [Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act] is a work in progress, it appears its sponsors decided to appease their supporters rather than draft a bill that will gain bipartisan support. This bill does not adequately address issues associated with nuclear power and does not ensure that cap and trade legislation is not used to supplement the federal budget.

The lack of a genuine bipartisan outreach is unfortunate given the need for action to mitigate climate change in a fiscally responsible manner.

Senator McCain believes a robust nuclear power component is necessary in any legislation to address climate change. Further, responsible legislation must address the nuclear waste storage problem the Obama Administration created by killing off the Yucca Mountain project. Without a viable solution for waste storage, we won't be able to move forward with the aggressive nuclear power deployment we need to make cap and trade affordable."

I am very sad that McCain is more interested in prioritizing nuclear energy than passing a bill that will reverse global climate change. Please write to him, call him, go into his office on Lakeshore and TELL MCCAIN TO CUT THE CRAP!
